The Government has been accused of a U-turn on its plans to burn senior bond holders at Anglo Irish Bank and Irish Nationwide.
The Minister for Finance Michael Noonan is today meeting the head of the European Central Bank Jean Claude Trichet to discuss reducing the amounts Ireland has to invest in the bankrupt institutions.
The ECB is opposed to burning bond holders and Mr Noonan said yesterday imposing losses on them was no longer his priority.
Fianna Fáil spokesman Michael McGrath has accused the Government of breaking its promise to burn bond holders.
He said the Government had put a further €17bn of taxpayer's money into the banks without getting senior bondholders to contribute a single cent.
