The son of a soldier shot dead by the IRA in the 1980s has confronted presidential hopeful Martin McGuinness.
Mr McGuinness was canvassing in Co Westmeath when the confrontation took place.
Private Patrick Kelly and trainee garda Gary Sheenan were shot dead during the kidnapping of supermarket giant Don Tidey in 1983.
Today in a shopping centre in Athlone, Private Kelly's son David questioned the Sinn Féin candidate about who murdered his father.
Martin McGuinness said he did not know who was responsible and offered his sympathy to the Kelly family.
Speaking to Midlands 103, Mr Kelly said: "I don't believe him at all…I am convinced that he does have that knowledge. He was a leading figure of the IRA at the time.
