Derry City 1 Shamrock Rovers 0
A blunder by Alan Mannus, and a brilliant save from his opposite number Ger Doherty, saw champions Shamrock Rovers slump to a second defeat in three games as Derry kept their own title aspiration very much alive with this win at the Brandywell.
With Sligo Rovers and St. Patrick's Athletic yet to play this weekend, Rovers are set lose the leadership of the table for the second time in a fortnight.
The win lifts Derry up to second in the table for the moment, just a point of Rovers.
Derry were the better side in the first half with topscorer Eamon Zayed shooting straight at Mannus when through one-on-one.
The only goal of the game arrived nine minutes into the second half when Danny Lafferty's direct free-kick was fumbled into his own net by Mannus.
Derry keeper Doherty then produced the save of the night when pushing Billy Dennehy's free-kick onto the bar before also saving well from Gary Twigg late on
