Ireland's largest gardening food and family festival has started in Dublin today, with tens of thousands of visitors expected between now and Monday.
President Michael D Higgins officially opened the Bloom festival, taking in a tour of some of the 27 show gardens.
"Yes it is true to say that I have been an enthusiast for Bloom for a number of years" he said.
"Different times; last year when I was campaigning, I had a calling that I more or less galloped through a bit - saying we should be going slower".
"My first piece of advice about Bloom is: give yourselves time."
As well as gardens, there are cookery demonstrations, workshops, a food village, children's entertainment and even an animal farmyard.
Miah Ni Nualláin, 10, from Crumlin has designed the first-ever show garden by a child.
"The name of it is 'Raining Cats and Dogs' - and it's about dogs and cats having their dream garden," she said.
"I have dog daises…cat grass, ponytail grass, shasta daisies, I have a dog house, a cat house and a big bone.
