Four in 10 to vote for Fiscal Treaty, says new poll

Almost 40% of people say they will vote for the Fiscal Treaty in the May 31 referendum, according to a new poll.

The poll in today's Irish Times says 39% of people plan to vote yes in the referendum on May 31, while 30% say they will vote no. 

However, a sizeable 31% say they are either undecided or will not vote at all.

Spokesperson for the no campaign group Libertas, John McGuirk, said he was not nervous about the results of the survey.

"I'm very encouraged. If I was sitting in a chair belonging to a yes campaign strategist this morning…I would be very nervous," he said.

"(The yes campaign has had) four months of out-spending the no campaign five to one, with all the institutional support of the major political parties, most of the media, the business community, the sporting and farming communities and all the lobby groups all on their side, all shouting at people that if they don't vote for this the sky will fall in.

"The best they can do after four months is less than four in 10 people voting yes and 30% of people on the fence.
