Opponents to the EU fiscal treaty have hit back at Government claims that EU leaders have agreed not to change the treaty after Ireland votes on it next week.
The Taoiseach and Tánaiste have said that any growth deal worked out in Brussels next month would be separate to the treaty itself.
The Socialist Party said that the claims made by Enda Kenny and Eamon Gilmore are not backed up statements from other EU politicians.
In the Dáil today, Sinn Féin's Caoimhghín Ó Caoláin said if the Government is correct, then it means a Yes vote will put the country on an irreversible path to further debt.
He said that a Yes vote would give "constitutional protection around these harsh fiscal measures".
"Make no mistake, it has already been said that irrespective of what complexion any future government may be made up of, it will not have the ability to reverse from a situation that we will find ourselves in post a Yes vote next week," he said
