Three people are being questioned by gardaí in Cork following the seizure of drugs and cigarettes in the city yesterday.
In a separate incident, two men are being held in Ballyshannon, Co Donegal after gardaí uncovered a cannabis-growing operation, including cannabis plants worth €1.6m.
Two men and a woman were arrested in Cork city yesterday in connection with the seizure of 8,000 cigarettes and 40,000 ecstasy tablets.
The cigarettes - which were from China - were detected by revenue officials in the Portlaoise mail centre.
A controlled delivery was carried out which led customs to a residential premises on Cork's southside where the cigarettes were recovered, along with ecstasy tablets valued at around €400,000.
In a separate operation, two Chinese men have been held overnight by gardaí in County Donegal following the seizure of cannabis plants worth an estimated €1.6m.
An elaborate growing operation including 2,000 cannabis plants were found in a warehouse at Trummon, in Laghey near Donegal town yesterday.
The men, one aged in his thirties and one in his forties, are being held at Ballyshannon garda station
